Customer Review: hammer drill not sure until I use this drill. may be too much more than I needed Customer Review: Not bad This is a perfect back-up drill for the price. It is called a “Hammer” drill but it doesn’t actually hammer, it has a setting that actually “grinds” the chuck and that is supposed to simulate hammering… I think. I have used the drill and is is powerfull enough to do stuff around the house. If you are having second thoughts about buying this drill, just buy it, you wont regret it.

Bosch 33618-2G 18-Volt Ni-Cad 1/2-Inch Cordless Drill/Driver Kit This is basically an upgrade of Bosch’s existing 33618 Brute Tough drill. The upgrade from the regular 33618 model comes in the form of Bosch’s “Bluecore” battery technology, which offers longer life and faster charging time than other Ni-Cad battery platforms. Otherwise, this is pretty much the same as its predecessor. In this case, that’s a good thing, as the 33618 has long been a favorite of professionals, and for good reason. As a class, Bosch’s Brute Tough tools offer exceptional durability and power in an efficient package. The 33618-2G drill is no exception. This drill delivers one of the best power to weight ratios of any cordless drill available. Bosch engineers managed to squeeze a truly impressive 550 inch-pounds of torque into a 5.7-pound package. To get more raw turning power than that in a Nickel Cadmium-powered drill, you would need to jump up considerably in weight. The Bosch-built unibody power train contains the motor, gearbox, and clutch in one contiguous unit for durability and the best alignment possible. The Durashield housing, made from a flexible ABS nylon blend, makes the tool extremely resistant to damage from external impacts. A steel-reinforced collar protects the tool even when it is dropped on the chuck. Bosch claims the drill will easily survive multiple 1-story drops. We haven’t tried to duplicate that, but if anyone experiences this, please let us know in a customer review.
A host of other features make this a great tool to own and use. External motor brushes can be replaced in as little as 2 minutes. All motor brushes eventually wear out. External brushes that you can change yourself will save service costs down the line, and the Bosch’s brushes are easy to access and change quickly, which is nice, since “drill motor maintenance” is rarely on anyone’s list of favorite recreational activities. There is a 15-position clutch to prevent stripped screwheads and buried screws; a ratcheting, single-sleeve 1/2-inch chuck for one handed bit changes and carbide-steel teeth for a stronger bit grip. A 2-speed gear box to provides optimal performance for both high-torque and high-speed applications. The integrated magnetic bit holder at the base of the handle is easy to access.–Tod Harrick
Bluecore Battery Technology Bluecore batteries offer up to 50% longer life than comparable batteries of the same voltage and a fast charging time. Special cooling rods absorb the head inside the batteries. Sensors within the batteries communicate with the new Bosch 30-minute chargers to ensure optimal results. Bluecore batteries are completely compatible with all Bosch cordless tools.
Fast 30-Minute Charger Available in single or dual bay models, this charging station charges all Bosch 9.6-, 12-, 14.4-, 18-, and 24-volt cordless tool batteries in 30 minutes. A microprocessor measures internal battery temperatures to optimize energy flow and maximize battery charge capacity. 2 LED indicators make it easy to see when your batteries are fully charged.
What’s in the box Drill/Driver, single-bay 30-minute charger, (2) 2.4 amp hour batteries, 1 double-ended screwdriver bit, integrated magnetic bit holder, side handle, carrying case Customer Review: Let down The biggest disappointment with this drill is that it won’t charge below 32 deg F, pretty major setback for winter work that I’ve never seen on any other model, and I’ve used many. Where other chargers blast the battery with juice until it heats up enough to accept a charge Bosch just shows a red error light. Even when I brought it inside and it finally warmed above freezing it only trickle charged at cold temps taking hours to fill. I called Bosch and they said that the Litheons are the same way so I returned mine and ordered a NiMh of a different brand, more amp hours and maybe I’ll actually be able to use this one. Also the softer break “durashield” housing is more prone to scratches and won’t help you anyway if you drop it on the cheesy plastic chuck my model came with. Customer Review: INCREDIBLY GOOD I count this in the top five purchases in my life. Extemely high quality, very powerful. If you use this drill in any normal way, you will be very happy. If you use it in abnormal ways (see below) you will be astounded.
It drilled a half inch hole in BRICK with cheap bits intended for a hammer drill (the bits didn’t survive!). I only managed to max out the drill trying to extract rusty 3/8 inch lag screws from treated 4 X 4’s, but my conventional plug-into-the-wall-drill did no better (I was using an adapter to drive hex ratchet sockets). When I say max out, there is some kind of safety torque thing which keeps the drill from harm.
The batteries last a long time, even in heavy abuse.
This drill passes the ULTIMATE consumer test, in which the manufacturer must be smarter than the user, and foresee the user’s lack of expertise.
EXTRA Value: 2 batteries, long warranty.
Wow.

SKIL Power Tools are products of the Robert Bosch Tool Corporation. Customer Review: Got it right. This drill which is an upgrade of the skil 2887-05 is a sturdy workhorse with plenty of power and versatility for the home handyman and could hold it’s place in many workplace settings. The drill is comfortable, balanced well with a battery that lasts, a reliable charge indicatior and with the quick charge and 2nd battery provided will keep you working without interruption all day long. The versatility it offers meets nearly all home needs and then some and under repeated heavy loads performed effortlessly with no signs of strain. Affordable, metal gears and with all it’s bells and whistles a great value. Customer Review: Better than most will need… This drill/driver is ideal for the heavy duty homeowner. My wife and I are constantly working on improving our land and home. This means fencing, 4×4 posts using spade bits, masonry drilling, and even metal drilling (both soft metals and hard metals (with cutting oil). This drill powers through everything I have put it up against, most with complete ease. Battery life is good, not the best on the market I am sure, but sufficient. The only drawback I can think of is the difficult procedure to get the bubble level insert off the drill. I don’t use the bit size selector underneath so this really isn’t an issue for me however.
The all metal gearbox seems strong enough to handle what most folks would do to it. I treat my equipment and tools with respect but expect my cordless drill to perform in all weather conditions. This one does just that.

Makita BHP454 18-Volt LXT 1/2-Inch Lithium-Ion Cordless Hammer Drill Kit Includes 18V Cordless LXT Lithium-Ion 1/2″ Hammer Driver-Drill - BHP454, (2) 18 Volt 3.0 Ah LXT Lithium-Ion Batteries - 194205-3, (2) Bits, (1) Grip, Optimum Charger - DC18RA, Carrying Case, Operating Manual Customer Review: Best of the bunch I am a contractor and I have owned dozens of drills. Half a year ago or so, I had a subcontractor doing some HVAC in a basement for me. He whipped out his Makita to drill a hole in the near pitch black joist bay and voila, there was light! No cords, no set up time, no precariously balanced flashlights, just bright light coming straight from the drill. Now that is cool and a heck of a time saver.
I did my research and quickly realized the advantages of this drill over its competition. So I bought it and its sister drill set the ‘Makita LXT218 18-Volt 2-Tool LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Combo Kit’. This set includes a lighter weight drill and an indispensable compact extremely light weight impact driver. Nothing comes close to this combination of drills and they ALL have lights and all of the lights stay on for 10 or so seconds after you release the triggers. This feature is clutch. The smaller drills of the ’sister’ combo kit come w/smaller li batteries to keep them more compact and lighter weight, but they accept the larger batteries from the BHP454. This gives them an exceptionally long run time. Both kits come w/a high-tech fan cooled fast smart charger which boasts longer battery life. For me as a contractor, battery life tends to coincide w/death of the tool it belongs to (The grave yard is a large cardboard box in my shop). Replacement is costly so longer is better.
So far, the only complaint I have about these tools is that the speed and for/rev switches are clumsy and could be better designed. Customer Review: Believe the hype Popular Mechanics’ glowing review of this drill is well deserved in my opinion. It is light, fast, well-balanced, and easy to use. Bosch’s competing model (17618-01) feels faster and stronger, but it also weighs a ton, is a bit lengthy, requires you to switch between driving and drilling modes by rotating the 25 position clutch selector all the way back to zero, and the side handle slipped around a lot on the floor model I played with.
With the 9-9/16″ Makita you can instantly flip between driver, drill and hammer modes with a little switch, hoist it above your head for extended periods of time without strain, and the forward/reverse selector is also much easier to hit. Throw in the handy depth gauge thingy and the belt clip and it’s tough to miss those extra few BPMs Bosch has to offer unless you plan on dropping your drill on concrete with any degree of frequency. I can’t comment on Bosch’s battery life claims as I did not use one long enough to wear it down, but if you really need a lot more power than this, get something with a cord.
This will absolutely not replace anybody’s rotary hammer, but if all you need to do is plant some Tapcons or knock a hole through some brick to pull cable through, it’s a wondrous jack of all trades drill indeed. I have no complaints so far.

Dewalt 18 volt Cordless 1/2″ Compact Drill (DW959) - BARE TOOL BODY ONLY Includes: DW959 Tool body only BATTERIES AND CHARGER SOLD SEPARATELY Customer Review: Great Cordless Drill I’ve used this drill for over a year now, and it’s my second DeWalt 18V cordless drill. My other DeWalt drill is a different model number. This drill has performed flawlessly, essentially the same as my older DeWalt cordless drill. The only difference I can see is that the DW959 is a bit lighter than my older DeWalt. But otherwise, the chuck works the same, the two seem to have about the same torque, and the operation of the controls is exactly the same. I would not hesitate to purchase another DW959 - except that I don’t need more than two cordless drills (one for drilling and one for driving screws). Customer Review: Do not buy this item I have owned DeWalt tools for years and have been satisfied, until I bought this one at Home Depot. It is inferior to any other DeWalt drill I have ever owned. Hard to tighten chuck. The motor turns when you try to tighten the chuck. Not like all other DeWalt drills. I have never been able to find this model on a DeWalt website. Must be an odd order for Home Depot. If this had been the first DeWalt drill I ever purchased, I would never buy another DeWalt tool.

Black & Decker HPD18K-2 18-Volt Ni-Cad 3/8-Inch Cordless Drill/Driver Kit This is a great drill for around the house, in the garage and in the workshop: It s powerful enough, user-friendly and comes with not one, but two batteries and a two-port charger so you re never without your drill.
If you re upgrading from a corded drill, you ll love the freedom and convenience of this cordless model, and it s a good bet it s got more power than what you were using before, with 330 in./lbs. of torque, or rotational force. You can adjust this force with the 32-position clutch, setting it to the best position for the material you re driving into and how large your fastener is the bigger the hardware, the higher the setting you ll need.
This 18-volt drill/driver has surprising speed with two gears, giving you 0 to 350 rpm in low speed and 0 to 1,400 rpm, enough to whisk you through any project you tackle, whether it s hanging wallboard, building a deck putting up a playscape for the kids.
The single-sleeve chuck is all metal, and the spindle lock engages easily for quick bit changes. It s ergonomically designed, too, with good balance and a nice rubber grip. The spring-loaded battery disengages easily, always a plus for those with smaller hands.
What this drill has over its competition is the fact that it comes with a two-port charger and two batteries, keeping you powered all the time and not having to wait for a recharge.
Professionals sometimes scoff at Black and Decker as a brand for amateurs, but this drill s worthy of the tradesman s consideration. It s well-made, powerful and reliable. — Kris Jensen-Van Heste Customer Review: drill that does not work The item was described as used and had some scratches. We were not dissappointed in the appearance of the drill. The motor seemed to be fine;however, the chuck was frozen. It is impossible to put a drill bit in the chuck, therefore the drill is not usable. We contacted the seller and hope to get either a refund or a way to make the drill operable. Customer Review: HPD18K Review I have found that the housing is too light. It has twisted in my hand when I have had to use force for long, 3″, screws. The balance is not as comfortable as my last B&D drill, Fire Storm. I am not thrilled by this drill. The only reason it hasn’t been returned is it is the only one I have.
